What to Do If You Have a Dental Emergency
Same-day Emergency Care in Hopkins & St. Paul
If you have a dental emergency, our team is ready to help. Same-day dental emergency appointments are available in almost all cases. We are open early mornings, evenings until 7PM and Saturdays at both our Hopkins and St. Paul offices.

Toothache or Dental Infection
A toothache can be a sign of a serious dental emergency. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Never put pain medication directly on the gum tissue — it can cause severe burns. Call us immediately for a same-day dental emergency appointment.
Knocked Out Tooth
Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it with water — do not scrub it. Place it back in the socket if possible, or keep it moist in milk. Getting to a dental emergency appointment within 30 minutes can make the difference between saving and losing the tooth.
Chipped or Fractured Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress for 20 minutes to reduce swelling. Take ibuprofen for pain as directed. A chipped or fractured dental emergency may require a crown or root canal depending on the severity — call us for a same-day dental emergency appointment.
Abscess or Dental Infection
A dental abscess is a potentially life-threatening infection. Symptoms include severe pain, swelling, fever and difficulty breathing. Do not wait — call us immediately for a dental emergency appointment. If you are having difficulty breathing, call 911.

Lost Crown or Cap
Place a small amount of denture adhesive in the crown and place it back on your tooth. Do not use superglue. Call us for a dental emergency appointment to have it re-cemented properly.
Wisdom Tooth Pain
Wisdom tooth pain is often caused by impaction or infection. Rinse with warm water and call us for a same-day dental emergency appointment. Sedation options are available for anxious patients.
